Birth photography is not a new art, but it is a rapidly growing service. While birth is an every-second-of-the-day occurrence, the birth of a child is still a sacred and special happening.

The photos tell the beautiful story of the birth of your child. From the intensity of active labor, the details of your birth location, to the first moments you ever look at your baby, every image embodies the love and strength it took to create life.

I never felt like I had to apologize for my 2. 5 year old's energy or lack of attention span. I also found it as such a great reminder to slow down, live in the moment, and really take in the moments that we are celebrating through images. She is a true pleasure to work with.     What was your experience with working with Karissa?: Karissa photographed my whole family at my childhood home before my parents sold it. We wanted to capture the spirit and memories of the house and those who lived in it, which is exactly what Karissa did. Her attention to detail, and her intuitive eye created photos that were perfect for a memory book. Karissa zeroed in and snapped certain, special details of the home without even being asked. Most of all she made everyone feel at ease. The shoot was easy breezy and took a very short time for all that was captured. No muss no fuss. A true professional.

    Karissa has also done a short, beginners (me) reiki session on me. It was my first time and had no idea what to expect. Mid way through the session I got totally tingly from toes to head, so something was working. It was a great intro and made me want to pursue such healing further.

Types of Sessions

Maternity, Fresh 48, Newborn Lifestyle

Maternity: Done during pregnancy ideally 30-35 weeks along in your pregnancy this portrait session captures your beautiful body in its fullest before baby is born. These are done in your home or on location.

Fresh 48: This session is for hospital births and done within the first 48 hours (or prior to your discharge). I capture your baby while they are their youngest self in detailed portraits as well as photos of parents holding fresh baby and the details of their new life.

Newborn Lifestyle: This type of session is for the documentary loving families. It’s not your typical newborn portraits but a combination of detailed photographs of baby as well as lifestyle images of family and baby in your home.

Your Birth Story

You are carefully planning every detail of your birth plan, your baby registry, baby’s room, washing their first clothes, etc. As a birth photographer I join your birth team as an observer of your story. You and your baby are on a simultaneous journey, one that you can’t fully witness while you give birth and visit labor land… having photographs to revisit of your child’s birth are such a treasure. Most people that hire me, are having their 2nd or 3rd child and share sentiments of regret for not having photographs of their first birth. Don’t let this be your regret.

  • A full Storytelling Session is ~90 minutes and a Power Half Hour is ~30 minutes. I personally don’t like to stay on strict time keeping because children often need space to feel or meet their needs.

  • I overdeliver all of the little details of your family session. I don’t like to limit to a number and send you what I capture. With this said, it’s usually 30 for a Power Half Hour and 75 + a video.
